Founded in 1883 by a group of eminent men, including the scientist Louis Pasteur, the diplomat Ferdinand de Lesseps, the writers Jules Verne and Ernest Renan, and the publisher Armand Colin, the Alliance française is the largest network of French language and cultural centers in the world.
The Alliance Française d’El Paso was founded in 1964 and it is one of over 1,000 Alliances Françaises in 138 countries around the world. Each year nearly 500,000 people worldwide come to an Alliance Française to learn French and 6 million attend cultural activities. There are over 100 chapters in the United States.
The Alliance Française d’El Paso is affiliated with the Alliance Française de Paris, the Foundation Alliance Française, the Fédération Alliances Françaises USA and the Délégation Générale in Washington. The Alliance Française d’El Paso is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization incorporated in the State of Texas.
