Alliance Française of El Paso
Premier Destination For French Language and Culture
Founded in 1883 by a group of eminent men, including the scientist Louis Pasteur, the diplomat Ferdinand de Lesseps, the writers Jules Verne and Ernest Renan, and the publisher Armand Colin, the Alliance française is the largest network of French language and cultural centers in the world.
The Alliance Française d’El Paso was founded in 1964 and it is one of over 1,000 Alliances Françaises in 138 countries around the world. Each year nearly 500,000 people worldwide come to an Alliance Française to learn French and 6 million attend cultural activities. There are over 100 chapters in the United States.
The Alliance Française d’El Paso participates in this network by:
- Offering French classes for people of all ages. Our classes run throughout the year in small groups and at various locations on the East and West sides of El Paso.
- Sponsoring cultural events featuring French performers, lectures on the French language and culture, and French films. The Alliance also supports and aids French teachers in all schools in the El Paso and Las Cruces areas.
- Promoting cultural diversity in the Borderlands by acting as a forum for French natives in the Rio Grande Valley and promoting a mix of American, Mexican, and French cultures. The Alliances across the world are dedicated to promoting French language and francophone culture in order to foster relationships between people of all nationalities, ethnicities, and races.
The Alliance Française d’El Paso is affiliated with the Alliance Française de Paris, the Foundation Alliance Française, the Fédération Alliances Françaises USA and the Délégation Générale in Washington. The Alliance Française d’El Paso is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization incorporated in the State of Texas.
